There’s nothing worse than looking forward to a nice hot shower and suddenly there’s no hot water! Having no hot water in your shower is inconvenient and annoying, but don’t worry, we’ve put together some tips to help you solve the problem. Whether you need a new hot water system or just a simple shower repair, Mid Richmond Plumbers & Suppliers are here to help.

Why is there no hot water in the shower?

The first step is to pinpoint the problem. You can do this by checking the other taps in your home.

Situation 1: It’s just the shower

If it’s just the shower that’s running cold, then the problem is likely to be with the shower itself. You may be able to fix the issue yourself if you feel confident enough, or you may prefer to get in touch with your local plumbers who will be able to fix the problem with minimum fuss.

Scenario 2: All the taps are running cold

In this situation, it’s worth doing a more thorough investigation. The reason for there being no hot water in your shower could be down to a few different factors.

  1. Someone else has used the hot water
There’s not much you can do about this other than wait for the water to heat up. If this situation is a frequent problem, it might be worth exploring different
    hot water systems.

  2. Your water heater isn’t working properly
This could be a simple issue, like a blown fuse, or it may be something more complicated. If it’s a case of replacing the fuse, many people are happy to do that themselves. If you’re not sure what the problem is, then get in touch with the professionals to get the problem sorted.

  3. The thermometer on your water heater is set too low
Depending on your system, this should be easy to adjust – the ideal temperature for hot water is around 60°c, which is hot enough to kill harmful bacteria but not so hot there is a risk of scalding.

Situation 3: The shower water is warm, but not hot

If your shower never feels quite hot enough, it’s worth checking the thermostat on your water heater. If that all seems ok, then the problem may be with your shower – most likely the mixing valve. To fix this, you need to take the whole shower apart, which means it may be time to call the professionals.
